About

Professional Uses of Social Media is an advanced undergraduate course in the English Department’s Public and Professional Writing Program at the University of Pittsburgh.

In this course, we explore what it means to use social media as a professional in support of one’s own career or in support of the goals of a business or organization for which one works.

Our blog is one site of our public-facing digital discourse (you can also keep up on Twitter at #SoMediaPitt). In past semesters, students have used blog entries to further explore sub-topics related to professionalism, writing, and/or social media in which they were particularly interested. Currently, students use blog posts to think “out loud” about the course reading material, drawing lines of connection to larger questions or observations on communication, writing, professionalism, social media, and themselves.
